BIOGRAPHY

Soprano Iria Perestrelo has been described as an “accomplished and charming artist… with a warm and gentle timbre and exquisite high soprano voice”. Her core repertoire includes several Mozartian leading roles and arias from the Classical and Baroque repertoire.​

Based in London for over a decade, Iria Perestrelo has had the opportunity to perform with many of the UK’s top musical institutions. Highlights have been being a regular company member of Grange Park Opera - a major British opera festival, singing alongside illustrious artists such as Bryn Terfel, Simon Keenlyside and Joseph Calleja; the participation at the Wexford Festival Opera (Ireland); the staged performance of St. Mathew Passion at the National Theatre London, directed by Sir Jonathan Miller; the acclaimed performance at the Wigmore Hall, where Iria premièred “Óxido, op.9”, by eminent composer Francisco Coll; the concerts with the Guildhall Baroque Orchestra and with the ensemble Prince and Pauper Consort, appearing at the London Handel Festival, the Brighton Early Music Festival and in many iconic venues in the UK; the collaboration with the AAM and the OAE (notably the performances with the 

 

 

Choir of the Enlightenment at the BBC Proms under Sir Simon Rattle and Marin Alsop); with the Philharmonia Chorus, performing in stages as Royal Festival Hall, Albert Hall, Barbican, Kings College, Sheldonian Oxford, Palau de la Música València, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, under the baton of world-leading conductors namely Sir Jeffrey Tate, Andris Nelsons, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Harding.

n the 2020/2021 season Iria has been engaged to sing at Konzert Theater Bern, in Switzerland. Her performances there include Otello, Die Fledermaus, Jenufa, Norma, Parsifal, and Mozart Requiem.

Iria’s opera credits include the roles of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (D. Giovanni) Despina (Così fan tutte), Serpina (La serva padrona), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Adele (Fledermaus), Moth (Midsummer Night’s Dream), Cis (Albert Herring). Her concert performances include Handel Messiah, Vivaldi Gloria, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Mozart Exsultate Jubilate, Coronation Mass, Missa Brevis in G, Haydn Kleine Orgelmesse, Schubert Mass n.2 in G, Fauré Messe Basse, Bach Ich habe genug.

 

Her international engagements include appearances in music festivals in Portugal, in particular the Zêzere Arts Festival, Festival dos Capuchos Almada, Palácio de Seteais Sintra (performing alongside famous violinist Yury Revich and pianist Alexei Eremine). Iria is a regular soloist with Orquestra de Jovens de Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal), and appears as guest artist in recital with tenor Luis Gomes and pianist Iain Burnside, most recently in Portugal and Italy.

ria is part of the duo project Songs from Portugal, together with harpsichordist Isabel Calado.

A special collaborative project, it aims to explore the rarely performed Portuguese vocal repertoire from the 18th,19th, and early 20th centuries. In 2018 the duo has won the Instituto Camões Award (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for the promotion of Portuguese culture abroad. With the support of the Embassy of Portugal in the UK, the duo presented a concert tour in historical venues in London, such as Handel House, National Trust Fenton House and has scheduled future performances in Paris. In 2019 the duo recorded their first CD “Modinhas”.
